Ranch Dog 314″-316″-180 with SC or XCB-type lube grooves for 7.62×51’s or 303 British. I’m intrigued by the concept of adopting XCB lube grooves to Ranch Dog boolits. I think the additional body strength from the shallow lube grooves of the XCB would be great for HV shooting. This mold would fill the caliber gap just above 30 caliber. I also prefer to choose my own lube and not rely on just the liquid lubes meant for tumble lubing.

Sounds like an outstanding idea. Make mine .311″, with XCB grooves, 2 cavity GC.

I really like the Ranch Dog inspired bullets with regular type lube grooves. Right now, I want one for my Mauser FR-8, 7.62×51 that will take a .314″ bullet. Where none exists yet, my thinking was to adopt a very new, lube groove concept that seems to enhance bullet accuracy by all testing results to date. After all, a new mold is needed in this size anyway. There’s a lot of other military rifle shooters out there that would benefit from it, too.

I have a new, regular lube groove NOE 311-165 that seems to want to shoot but, the size is just a little too small and the weight just doesn’t seem enough enable it to reliably ignite the slower powder I’m using to push it to better than 2500 FPS. 10 shot groups at 100 yards run about an inch wide by four inches high so, I suspect an ignition problem that wasn’t cured with magnum primers. I still have a few tricks left up my sleeve to try. Like powder coating to add a few thousands to the diameter. Or maybe NOT using the HP option of the RG mold to increase the weight. This rifle just likes 180-200gr bullets, though.

oldblinddog, if you haven’t tried a NOE 311-165 with regular lube grooves, I highly recommend you try it.

I have the 311041 that casts 185 gr, the 311 188 gr 30 Hunter, and I just put in my order for the 311-195 FN RCBS. I’d like to get the 180 RD short neck because I like the heavier boolits for the same reasons as you do. I also had the idea of the XCB  grooves for (once again) the same reasons. I think that the RD lubed with 2700+ would pretty much replace a number of J-bullet applications quite well.

No interest at all in a larger diameter bullet of the RD design to fit the 7.62×51, 7.62×54 or 303 British?

I think that a TL design would work too, now that I’ve discovered Ben’s Liquid Lube!

I’d like a .314″ RD bullet of about 180gr for hunting with my Mauser FR-8, 7.62×51. No other bullet is available in this weight.

The British 303s and 7.65s are in the same boat. A .316″ could be made for them too, of the same design.

If this is for an upsize on the .310 model currently available, I am in.  Still need a real hunting boolit for the Mosin.

The scuttlebutt from a few months ago was that Michael/RD was working on a design for a 200-ish grain bullet for his .303 Enfield… but that the project is still ‘in the works’.  I believe that he has spoken to Al/Swede about it, and they may run it.

NOTE: Michael is sold on the TL grooves… and I believe he is also interested in BLL (Ben’s Liquid Lube).

I would suggest that you contact them about it – I know I would really like a RD bullet for my #5 Jungle Carbine!
