I’m looking for advice/explanation on how to select the correct expander plug – I’m used to simply buying M dies for a specific caliber and I’m not sure what the measurements are:

      Say .226 x .222

Is this what I would use, say for a cast bullet that measure .225?  i.e. .001 over bullet size.

Also whats the .222 size refer to?

      Thanks

          The plugs have 2 diameters.

The bigger one is the flare. This needs to be bigger than what you’re going to seat in there.

The smaller one is what grips the bullet. This needs to be smaller than what you’re seating but not so small it swages it excessively. Normally 1-2 thou of tension is enough.

The plugs are like the Lyman M dies two step design the smaller size is the first part that holds the bullet and is usually 2 thou under bullet diameter, the second size is the seating step part which is usually 2 thou over bullet diameter.
