Was there a problem with the performance of this boolitt. Since I am the “official research assistant” for our FAMILY cast and reloading projects , I was just given the order to get a mold for a 38-55 bullet of 250 gr in a HP.
I already have a few RD molds but didn’t need this one on the last group buy at CB. Went to the RD website (which I have marked in my favorites) and see that appears it was specifically designed for the 38-55. Is there a problem with the 235 0r 275 since both are currently in stock. As of right now I’m not sure which 38-55 was purchased and not sure of bore dia.

I designed the TLC379-235-RF with the Marlin 375 in mind and because of the request, added two additional grip grooves to accommodate the 38-55 Win. This would have been a fairly goofy looking bullet had it been designed specifically for the 375 Win. Considering the 375 Win brass length and the need to make ogive contact with the throat, the area of the two added crimp grooves would have been all nose length.

There is a lot of “airspace” around a factory 375 Win cartridge and I always speculated that the SAAMI chamber cut had one thing in mind, getting pressure out of the chamber quickly. The 220-grain jacketed bullet had quite a jump to engage the rifling and I think that is why well used Marlin 375s often have eroded throats and a loss of accuracy.

The two added crimp grooves where to accommodate the two lengths of brass available at the time the bullet was designed; Jameson & Winchester.

That is the story of the TLC379-235-RF.

A number of years later, I had JES rebore/rechamber a Rossi Rio Grande to 38-55 Win and that was the start of a bullet specifically designed for the cartridge. I wanted a 250-grain bullet without additional crimp grooves (I think they are unsightly and collect debri in the pocket of your blue jeans or hunting jacket). I also wanted the linear dimensions based on the Starline 2.080″ case as they are the most reliable supplier of 38-55 Win Brass. Winchester uses the same length but the Starline tapers the case mouth thickness which allows the use of .380+ bullet diameters. The image below is large so you will need to use the scroll bar. I wanted you to be able compare your rifle’s dimension to the drawing.

I really enjoy my Rossi 38-55 Win, loading it to 35.0 KPSI with the TLC380 bullet.I’ve taken a number of whitetails and feral hogs with it.

Thank you very much. as soon as I get with the other family member (now in Tx)we will hop right to it.

OUCH !!  Looks like we may have a problem.. While flipping back and forth from RDO and NOE I got lost. NOE does not appear to offer the tlc380-250RD. What are the options ? Will this require getting a group buy order up? I really would like to have this bullet in a Hollowpoint.

            You’re welcome.

If the design isn’t already an inventory item, yes, it would have to go through the group process.

I too would love this one if NOE could make it. Even better with tumble lube grooves…
