I have been trying to get one of Ed Harris’ .312″ 160 gr moulds like he originally designed for NEI, and that was later done by Lee, but without the changes Lee made to it. Jarod Todd at Heavy Metal Molds (HM2) did a run of about 60 of the original Harris design molds back in 2013, but apparently is no longer making these.
These molds were designed specifically for the 7.62x39mm CIP cartridge with its short .239″ case neck length, but also worked well in a number of other 30 caliber cartridges like the .308 Win and 30-06. Since this was an Ed Harris design, I contacted Ed asking his permission to do another run of this mould. Ed gave his approval.
These moulds could probably be made in other diameters, such as .310″, .316″, and .325″ like they were the last time so they could be used in anything from the 300 Blackout to the various 8mm’s. Is anyone else interested in getting one of these moulds.

I have been invited to put my wishes on this site by my friends of the CBA.
I am quite interested in the 160 gr Ed Harris mold ,but I prefer the 314 diameter. I have an old and worn aluminum gang mold (6 cavity) ,made by the late Walt Melander of NEI.
The bullets cast in old wheel weight alloy were aroun ,and a little bigger than 314. That is perfect fot the 7.62×39, 7.62 x54 and 303 British.
It’s tapered nose permitted very good fit , with just a little sizing ,in 30-06 with GI chambers and in other 308 calibers ‘Swiss K31 included.
I have a very good 312 gang mold from another custom mold maker,sporting a clever flat nose , wonderful for 308 barrels , but too small for the 303 european rifles .
Another important wish of mine , is that the gas check shank must be small enough to accept a hornady gas check without any effort,to avoid the bore of having to expand the gas check with punch&hammer .
I feel that the old Ed Harris design and dimensions bullet as made by Walt at Nei ,was the most universal & versatile bullet ,an all round bullet for all the 30 calbers , 308 and 311 bore.victorjones
tonyjones, You’ll need to do a chamber pound slug of your own personal rifle. Each chamber is unique. Instructions are here on the forum to follow.
Measurements should be taken with a 1″ micrometer.
You will need a pure lead slug, a 30″ long 1/4″ dia steel rod, a fired case filled with lead, tape and some light oil.
I used both a 314299 mold and Lee 312-155-2R mold to make the pure lead slugs. Some guys use a fishing weight hammered into a tootsie roll shape.
If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, it’s well worth having a trusted gunsmith do it for you.
