Al has supplied a preliminary drawing that closely approximates a bullet I’ve swaged for more than 30 years.
It is a beast from the 38 snubbie revolver, performing all out of proportion. It has to be seen to be appreciated, combining DEEP penetration with a massive permanent wound channel when soft lead is used at velocities in the 700 FPS range.

The design has obvious uses with different alloys in many cartridges, and applications, but my focus here is specifically to have a mold for the best thing I’ve seen (performance-wise) from the hide-out 38 Special.
Be fore-warned, it will print high from the typical “pocket gun”, but that’s irrelevant for it’s intended purpose.

It looks perfect to me.  I see a crimp groove, but it can also be crimped into the front band for revolvers or lever guns that need a shorter OAL.  The diameter seems ideal for my S&W and Colt Revolver throats, and could be rolled in LLA or 45-45-10.  Too, it could be powder coated if someone thought it small.

This is all fired from a J-frame compact 38 Special, and is what I’m hoping to duplicate.
Hopefully we can get enough interest to run it soon.

Looks similar to the Lyman 358430.  A Bulbus 195g RN made for the early 38 spl and 38 S&W.

in addition to the intended purpose, I’m thinking quiet but deadly from a 357 carbine, I’m game for a 2 cavity

I talked with Al and he said we could make it a go as a group buy.  If you want a gas check mold, you will need to specify.  I verified with Al that he could do the gas check option.  Here it is:

You need to post in the GB thread to be on the list.

Has anyone worked toward some data for this lil heavy weight?

I need to do some deep diving in old manuals this weekend. Wonder if there will be some info.

Its gonna make for a intresting subsonic bullet! ;)

These are photos of data published for bullets of similar weight.
The first photo is standard 38 Special data from the early Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook (small paperback the old guys will know).
The second photo is the same Lyman CBH 357 Mag data.

Third is from Hodgdon’s 1997 pamplet and is standard 38 Special.
The fourth photo is Hodgdon’s 38 Special +P data, and although it does not have any 200 grain info included it does have the lighter bullets that you can compare to the standard data in photo #3…. Just a few samples.

Here is a link to an article published in 2014 by Loaddata.com on heavy weight bullets in 38 special that might be of interest.

This design is very interesting, I might have to join in.
