I have a Lee custom heeled, HB, TL mold that I got from HarryO and he might have designed it.  I can provide sample boolits if someone wants to post dimensions – I don’t trust my measurements for something like this.  I would like to get this in at least a two cavity, but I question if there are 10 people here shooting the 41Colt!  I don’t even know if Swede can do this, it is a nose pour design with a hollow base.

I’ll get a few casted up next time I make some bullets using soft lead, which would give you  more accurate measurements.

Al, I sent the boolits a week ago.  Did you get them?  I know you are getting dozens, so don’t expect you have done anything with them yet.

Thanks.  One problem with that mold is that it is casting the heel just a tad large.  The case is .386″, or should be.  I would guess the heel shouldn’t be more than .388″?  That’s why I want your mold.  It will last longer than the Lee!

Al, HarryO responded to my post on CastBoolits with his criticisms of that boolit.  He thinks the grooves on the heel are useless (I concur) and that it needs a longer driving band (wouldn’t hurt, would make it a better boolit).  TL grooves or regular lube grooves are relatively meaningless to me, I’ll be tumble lubing them in either design.  I can see the argument for regular grooves and Buckshot can make an H&I die to fit.

In short, draw it without the heel grooves, with a longer driving band, and maybe an option for regular lube grooves.  Should be simpler that way anyway.

It’s now June, we’ve celebrated our 40th anniversary, and are planning for our son’s wedding in July.  Been busy and just got back to this.  Thought I’d drop you a reminder, Al.

I just cast some from that mold and it is casting large.  I get a front band varying from .408-.412.  It should be at .400 to fit the cylinder of my Uberti.  This is with AD ww metal.  My pot temp did vary some in the casting process, but this is much larger than what it initially cast.

Al, I can think of two possible changes.  One is the hollow base can be a little wider at the top, that is, the diameter of the circle can be larger.

The other is, if someone wants to shoot this with black powder the two lube grooves ought to be combined into one and a little larger.  This could be a different version for a different use.  It would provide enough lube to soften the BP residue.
