Nope, no email/pm from Al. Just wanted to be sure I got the classic, 6 in 1, mould.

I think if I was within driving distance, I’d need some serious restraint when entering the shop there. It would be hard to not walk out with a few extra items. That’s like a kid going into a candy store. Be safe.lol

I’m excited to try this one out.  Let me know when you guys get around to casting and shooting with this one.  What loads work out and such.

Got some all set and ready to go. Once the rain kicks back a bit I’ll set up my chronograph and let some fly. The Orange are from the 502-322 mold, the blue are from the 502-404 and the red are from the last HP 502 mold.
I did not add any gas checks yet. Just plain base and powder coated. The Orange I use is probably the thinnest and the blue always goes on the heaviest as far as coatings go. Everything was resized to .501 prior to loading.
I loaded a few using the max trail boss load and also on the lighter side using enforcer. I’m also going to try accurate 5744 later but I really like how the enforcer flows when measuring.
One thing I noticed while loading the different boolits is that I did not need to adjust my seating die on my turret press. Usually after each different boolit type I’m raising or lowering my seating die, and this round I did not for all 3 sizes. It was a nice added bonus.
I did trim all brass after resizing to 1.615 and had an C.o.a.l = 2.030
Previously fired starline brass with Winchester large rifle primers.
I do not normally trim my pistol brass but on the 500 magnum I do. They get trimmed every time.

Have you measures after running through your 501 sizer?

I wanted a 502 but didn’t want to pay the custom freight and weight time.

Got the Lyman 501 and actual measured is about .502.  Well within mfg spec I’m sure.  Just got blessed with what I wanted.

I’ll be posting more mushroom pictures in “at the range” shortly.  Waiting to get damage report.

Can’t believe recovering a second one.  Got one each of the 301 & 385 HB  actual with 40:1 is 290.4 avg / 368.3 avg – I kept + / 1g for each and didn’t have to toss many back.

I actually never have measured my resizing die. Just took it for granted when I bought them. I feel silly now for not measuring when I got them. The ones I have are from Lee. Thanks for that tip.
I’m glad to hear you had a good morning hunt. All we had in our yards yesterday was wild turkeys. Season opens up on nov 12.
What kind of velocity neighborhood do you think your in with your black powder hunt load?

I didn’t measure the die – just the sized boolits!

Did you look at my second topic in At The Range?

I plan on setting up the Oehler and trying both to find out.

I don’t remember seeing much of anything on BP velocities.

May call Ken before I try it.  The crap flying out is impressive and may destructive to the plastic screens.  Always hit Ken’s booth at the NRA AM for a mint patty and to say HI!

I just measured them. I’m a bit slow in the am, so I apologize for that.

And you guys are using the SW 500 pistol? I would think the recoil from that must be borderline unmanageable. Or do you load down from the maximum charge?

I just cast a few yesterday and they look good.  I need to buy more brass–haven’t been “unloading” my 500 mag cartridges fast enough to play with all the new 500 mag molds.  As far as the SW 500 revolver goes, some loads I like stout and some I like “less stout.”  You can still blow stuff up with a medium load, and even lighter loads still smack targets with authority.
