I have the 6 and half inch half lug model. It’s a heavy weapon even unloaded which helps with the recoil. All in all though, the 500 is no 22 plinking wheel gun, however the trail boss loads minimum and max are no more pop than a .45 acp. With the lower pressures, I’ve found some great results using softer lead. Really fun.
I’m also like Mr. Cornmastah and some I like with some pep if you now what I mean. I enjoy the rush of alittle recoil and the mastery of the big bores. I do not shoot it as much as my .45 but I have been able to tailor it a lot more to my liking for the regular range days and still make those “thunderbolts” to make a kid smile from ear to ear.  I have the 700 grain mold and those, well, those “lipsticks” are something else, but most of the other weights are well within the limits of a shooter that understands proper grip, stance etc.
unique also is another great light power to try from what I’ve read. I’ve been using trail boss, ramshot enforcer and accurate 5744 so far.

What is the barrel cylinder gap on yo’all 500 S&W’s?

My 454 is .001 which is about at tight as it gets.  Just curious to see what’s in my future.

Also if you shooting SS guns do you get the blue rings on the front of the cylinder that like to persist after cleaning?

I get them on something else and don’t recall what. :-

I found years ago that Amway metal cleaner works well with little effort.  Way back I did a lot of research to make sure I was doing no damage using it and it came up safe.  Don’t remember what is in it but ceased to worry about damage. :)

I have the longer barrel version of the 500 mag revolver (I think it is 8 3/8″ or something like that), but I’ve not measured my barrel/cylinder gap.

Yes, I still get the crud on the front of the cylinder, but I scrub most of that off and the ring doesn’t bug me.  I think the lewis lead remover or something like that works well for removing the ring.
