My 30-30’s have tighter throats and I powder coat, thus, the previously mentioned chopping of a spire point (the HTC311-177-SP PB), would be my preference.  Maybe lengthen the shank to keep it at 170ish as a solid.

A .190 – .200 meplat that leaves enough meat for a sturdy HP rim helps prevent nose deformation in the tube fed guns.

Does it need a crimp groove?  If so, this is where it gets a little tricky (one crimp groove distance will work better for one gun and not another and powder coating changes thickness on certain key parts).

Here are a few drawings to tinker with.  What should we change?

Looks great mate and look at the bc on it!! I guess I can play with neck tension and a lee crimp die if I can’t get a crimp groove on the mold to stop bullet set back. But I really do think a crimp groove would be beneficial especially when being used plainbased and neck tension cannot be to great for seating without distortion. If you put a groove right where the line is next to the crosshairs it would more than likely work for most 30-30s and hopefully other cartridges.
Can I get one with a gas check shank? I’ll put my name down for two of these molds one plainbased and one rg4 gas check.

Looks good to me let’s get this baby active and rolling.
I would just use a Lee factory crimp die it will make its own groove. That way I can use it in multiple 30 Cal’s

I would be in for at least a 3 cav maybe a 4.

Can we get a gas check version also?

I’ve got some of the deep hollow points cast and coated.  The deep hollow points are quite large and make the top of the hp pretty thin.  They are a little trickier to cast but should expand pretty well at lower velocities.  The cup point hp should be easy to cast and should be nice too.  I ended up buying a 30-30 just because of this bullet ha ha ha…  Well, I came across a good deal on one of those old NRA musket edition long barreled/long stocked 30-30’s in great condition (and it came with a ladder sight).  I figured I needed to shoot some cast bullets at longer ranges with that fancy ladder sight.  Anyways, I am going to try to work up some test loads in that rifle with some hollow points and non-hollowpoints with that bullet mold.  Swede was saying that the slick sided 30-30 mold looks so nice that he wants to try to run it in his 308 rifle.  Looks like a killer bullet in a 308 too.  In the 300 blk, it looks like it has to be seated so deep that the powder capacity in the case will take a big hit.  It looks like it could potentially be used in the 300 blk but would not be ideal.  Probably would not feed right (at least with the deep hp) being seated so short and having the large meplat.

Anybody else cast any and load em up?

I haven’t had a chance to cast any up yet unfortunately. Got any pictures of yours all coated for us to drool over? And the 30-30! I’ve wanted a musket Winchester for a little while now I’d love to see yours. Pretty good that Swede likes the bullet, means it must be good

I will try to post some pics of the 30-30 bullets and the rifle when I get a chance. 

Off topic, Kitika, you done any more shooting with the HTC459-500-SP bullet?  I ended up shooting a few subsonic loads with my sharps–barrel stayed nice and clean.  I was ringing steel at about 325 yards I think.  Easy peasy load to shoot–I think I could shoot them all day long.  Shoulder felt good afterwards.  I need to take my 5744 loads out with that bullet and test em in the sharps–I think those will be moving closer to 1200fps or so.
