The crimp groove in conjunction with the .455″ diameter is what allows the COAL to be long. I am glad to see there is plenty of room to have some movement in COAL. Something you don’t have with a lot of 45-70 designs in the .458 socom. Looks to be a good boolit and now you done gone and got me all excited to get mine. Should be a good bullet for large game hunting with that small cup HP to get some expansion.

Agreed!  Lots of room to play around with COAL for the variety of guns it will be used in.  I’m sure the flat nose will be good, but I’m really itchin to shoot some hollow point bullets in the .458 socom!

So, is it too late to adjust the crimp groove to where you where seating them? I like to GC Mine, and having the crimp groove out at that length would be ideal.

The socom doesn’t need to be crimped into a groove since it is magazine fed.  The crimp groove is for the 45-70 shooters with leverguns.  The leverguns need the crimp groove to prevent bullet setback or bullets from walking out under the force of recoil in the mag tube.
