      Hey guys,
      Just an fyi, but I was able to cast a few bullets with this mold (I borrowed Al’s first mold he made before the tool broke).  Bullets look good, just need to powder coat them tonight and size them.  Then I will load some up.  Got any requests on calibers or speeds you want me to try to run them in/at?  I was thinking of starting with some supersonic 300 blk and then maybe testing some in the .308 or .30-06 or something.  Let me know.

      Supersonic 300 blackout is going to be my application for this also so im curious to see what you get. Win 296 is my only super powder at the moment and load data shows 1600-1800fps. I noticed you also requested plain base, is this the one you have in hand or boat tail?

      I haven’t gotten my mold(s) yet–I borrowed Al’s first mold he cut before the tool broke.  The bullets I cast with his mold are the boat tail ones.  What kind of load with 296 were you thinking?  Also AR or bolt or single shot?

        I was going with plain base because of the issues so many have had with the Lee 230 gr. If I find out the boat tail flies straight ill kick myself for making bullet seating more difficult!

        I’m still very new in the world of 300 blackout and have only loaded M80 supers for my 10.5″ 1-8 twist AR. For 168 grain, Hodgdon load data says 14.6-16 grains of 296. I have no reason to push them very fast, I plan to load them middle of the road maybe 15.2-15.4 grains.

          Usually with cast bullets you take the load down a notch from the jacketed data.  If using 296, I would probably start out with a 13.5gr load if the bullet after powder coating and stuff weighs 175ish.  I will try that load out first and see how it does.  I’m really curious to see how this boat tail does.  I also had really bad luck with the original lee boat tail blackout mold–but I think my bullets were casting a bit undersized.

            I was so anxious to hear how this performed that the heavier than expected weight and cast factor didn’t occur to me when I read that load data. Has anyone heard of an estimated time these should be done? I was going to wait until this one was ready and order my sub mold at the same time, but I ordered the 247 grain yesterday to fiddle with in the mean time.

                Would you change my order to

                one = plainbase
                one = boattail

                Thank You, Dale

                      I’m #1 on the list, but if I may, I’d like to ADD to my order and get a 5 cav alum plain base version as well. So that way I’ll order a boat tail version *and* a plain base if I can still get in on that. Thank you.

                                I picked up my molds today.  They look really good.  I hope to be able to find some time this weekend to do some casting with it.

                                  Got my mold Thursday Feb 2nd.  Shipped to Michigan.  What a great looking mold.  Hope to use it soon.
