I had someone ask me about making an adapter for the Lee pot to allow the NOE mold guide to work on it.  I talked with Matt & Al and think we have a design that would work to make that possible.  I was curious as to how many of you use the bottom pour lee pots who would be interested in an adapter to allow the NOE mold guide shelf to work on the lee pot.

Ok guys, it seems like when you try to make something universal (so it fits everything) it doesn’t work as well for certain things as it does for others.  I’ve been casting with the Lee pot and the mould guide adapter the last several casting sessions.  I put about 50 lbs of lead through the pot yesterday testing the guide with the cutout for the drip.  I think the way we have it cut right now will work pretty well for all molds other than the 2 cavity lees.  Those little Lee 2 cavity molds are so narrow, that if we cut the bottom of the mold guide so that it would drip through, we wouldn’t be left with enough material on the left side.  I think we will have to sacrifice that feature with the cutout version of the mold guide.  All the other thicker (wider) molds should drip right through the cutout in the mold guide.  I will say, that this guide makes it especially nice with the heavy brass molds.  I think Al may just offer the lee mold guide adapter separate and then people can choose to buy the gen 1 guides (same as the lyman and rcbs current one) or the newer gen 2 guides with a shorter lip on the left side and the center milled out for drippage to fall through.  What do you guys think?  Oh and one of the cool features is that you can use it slightly angled to allow you to fit NOE 5 cavity molds with the sprue cutter plate going forward without it hitting the back of the lee pot.  I think the next mold guide will not have quite as much milled out in the center on the right side.  Short video to show what I’m talking about: https://youtu.be/9XaXgwTvKk4

I haven’t used a Lee 2-cavity in years, so for me the current cut-out version is perfect. Definitely put me down for one :D

Wow,  the cut out version looks great. That 5 cavity went smooth, great engineering.  Let us know when they are ready.

I have quite a few of those little 2 cav Lee mould. Count me in for the special adapter for those if you guys decide to make it.

I got a count of thirteen. But that’s more than I got fingers so I may be off a couple. That’s more than required for a new mould.  Any ETA? I suppose the move to the new ebsite is chewing u a lot of time, though.

We changed the location of the screws on the guide from the top (to keep from getting plugged by overflow of lead) to the front and back with larger extended screws.  These larger screws use the same Allen wrench head as the mold guide adapter, so you only need one wrench to tighten the adapter AND the guide.  The guide has been modified to have a less wide cutout for lead drippage, so the RG clips don’t catch on the right side.  I am waiting for a new guide to be cut so I can test with those features.  It’s kind of funny how you change one thing to make it better, and it brings up another issue–but I think we might have it all finalized with this latest iteration.

I have the final version in my hands that I need to just do a little final testing on… then we should see it available soon!
