Participant::So, has the final design been decided yet? And how many more commitments do we need to make the mold a reality?
It looks like about 15 people have expressed an interest in this design so far. I’ll go along with whatever type lube groove design the rest of you want.
Let’s move this one to the Active Group Buys!!!

::I’m not so concerned with the type of lube groove as long as the base bands are .311, nose at a minimum of .301″, max .302″ , length not exceeding 1” and weight as near 180 grns as possible which should be doable with the above parameters, I think. One grease groove.
What needs to be done to get this mold into production?

…I’ll go along with Rich on that!!!

Participant::Guys, we really need to make a change on the lube groove. One it is carrying too much lube. Two, the way it is right now it is a very weak area and can crush the midsection causing an out of balance.
How about a round shallow single groove or two shallow thin ones. Either way it will support the bullet so it has more strength in the bearing section wear it is needed as it is a weak design as it is right now.

::In discussion with Tomme;
If you all are looking at pushing that bullet above 2000 fps with todays modern lubes there is no need for that deep of a lube groove. What you have there is an unsupported bullet column of only .25 +/- to hold 80% of the bullet weight under acceleration. That front 80% of the bullet only has 15% of the bearing surface. That is a recipe for collapse or the nose bending to the side during acceleration or even when sizing and GCing. I would suggest a lube groove depth of .023 maximum and would actually look at splitting that single groove into 2 grooves. Doing one or both will substantially strengthen the bullets ability to withstand higher acceleration which promotes better accuracy.

Participant::Cut the 0.110″ drive band back to 0.100″ and shorten the bore ride to 0.145 from 0.186″
I think that should fit in the neck and throat a little better on rifles with tighter throats and the nose a little shorter to help it to not slump. Like to see what that would look like and the B.C. and weight. Should lighten it a little too.
And a single shallow round lube groove with 0.09″ width. That should help with the bearing surface.
