      With the talk of breech seated bullets for HV shooting, I designed this bullet. It would take about 1/8″ movement to BS in a .309 x .200 freebore that has a 1 deg leade angle or about .2 movement in a .15 freebore. It could also be used with match accuracy shot fixed.

        Hi Guy’s,
        I would really like to get this mold into production. It’s a very sound design and much more aerodynamic that other designs in this weight range.

        A note, regarding the grooves. If reducing the groove depth will help, I can do that. The radius I use for the grooves, help make the body of the bullet stronger than angled grooves and reduce stress risers in the body.

        Come on and help make this a reality, we only need 8 more. Try it, you’ll like it :)

              Following up on your suggestion of possibly reducing the grease groove dimensions, Frank, I’m curious if you would have an idea just how much reduction would be possible for the 3 lowest main grooves to still keep the volumn of lube carried by the XCB design? Larry and Bjornb have certainly demonstrated that the XCB carries more than adequate lube groove capacity.
              I like the radiused grooves and meplat for strengthening the design, smaller GGs could only improve on that. It seems feasible that reducing the width and depth of the lube grooves could only offer a win/win by increasing the bearing surfaces to help handle HV torque.

                I think this would be comparable, .006 wider and .002 deeper than the 30xcb, since you loose volume with the radius.

                I made a little change on the nose but, can put the angled nose back on.

                  I think you should go with your first drawing with the deeper grease grooves. I would be in on the style.

                    I am interested in this design and would be in on a group buy.  I just became familiar with this forum NOT with NOE’s molds have a few.  If this goes to production will there be a separate sign up?  Looks like I may have missed the 15% discount.

                        Wonderful, we are 1/2 way there :)

                        How many want a standard depth grease groove and how many would prefer shallow grooves? Or split the difference?

                        What will get the most interest as far as the nose transition a straight taper or using the ogive as part of the taper into the .300 bore size?

                        This is another version with a mid size groove depth ogive angle and step band.

                        This one tapers at 1.15 deg. from the .300 position of the ogive, back to the front of the .308 band. Again, this nose can be changed back to the tapered first design nose.

                          Frank all the designs are nice but I am partial to the ELCO 1.06 mod.1 drawing.
                          I like the .014 deep elliptical grease grooves and the 4 bands at .309. The big sell is the high BC. with 1.386 radius.

                            I’m going to agree with FLYCUTTER, I would prefer the deeper grease groves, I know it was stated earlier that shallower grooves x 4 will give ample lube but just to be on the safe side.  What caught my interest in this boolit is pushing it at HV speeds.  My goal is to push this as fast as possible in my Win. Mod. 70 30-06.

                            I also like the idea of all bands at .309.

                              Hi All,
                              I just got back from my vacation in BC, Canada.

                              One thing that hasn’t been brought up is what alloy that most of you will be using. It will effect both the weight of the bullet and the as cast size.

                              According to my bullet weight and size calulator, this bullet will cast about .0007 larger and weigh about 8 gr less in linotype.

                              Lino is what I see as the alloy most useful for this bullet design. #2 Lyman alloy would be good for 22 – 2300 fps and will fall about mid way between WW & lino for size and weight.

                              The size can be addressed with sizing but, the lessor weight will reduce the BC down to .342. I can compensate by increasing the lenght of the bullet by about .020 – .030.

                                I agree with you on lino being the best alloy for this bullet since you are trying to ride the edge of the envelope with speed. This definitely will not be a hunting bullet.

                                    In the above design, to use a conventional nose and to keep the BC up, I’ve had to remove one band and juggle the band to lube ratio, in order to keep the case in the neck of the ’06 and neck & freebore of the 308.

                                    If this in made in the WW format that Al uses, it will cast .3102 with lino and weight 157 gr + 3gr for GC = 160 gr, the BC will be .36 and .38 with a GC in WW. That means approx .37 with #2 alloy.

                                    The nose is still supported .105 ahead of the begining of the ogive. That’s where the ojive becomes .300
