Participant::It looks like you have a winner there. Keep us updated on how everything progresses.
I just received mine a few days ago, and haven’t cast with it yet. I have to do my casting outside, and its snowing lightly with the temps in the mid 30s now, so I may not get to actually use mine until late spring.

Participant::Mine was just delivered late this afternoon, so hasn’t even been warmed up.
**11/15 update: after heat cycling a couple of times in a 450* oven, I cast up a batch. 188.5gr w/o GC, and .302″x.312″. At .311″ sizing, they are looking good for my Rem700 30-06, RGS .308, and 7.5×55 K31. They seat deeper than I want in the 300BO for supersonic rounds but would be OK for subs. I’ll have to size some .310″ and check for seating depth/OAL.
**11/16 update: Sizing .310″ with the Lyman 450 didn’t work out as well as I would have liked, but might work just fine with a push through sizer.

Participant::Went out today as it was a little warmer than it has been in the last week or so. Tried to get out early enough to also beat the wind that was to come.
I tried a different powder today. Varget. I also tried a load that last time seemed to shoot ok. But this time I tried some at 0.310″ and some at 0.309″
I ran the Varget from 31 grs to 35 grs. And the ones with different diameters were both loaded with 34 grs of H4895.
The 35 grains of Varget shot the best at 1.18″. All were shot at 100 yds. I think I could have shot a little better today too, but the mirage was killing me today. I thought it was from the heat off the barrel, so I made a heat shield over the barrel to keep the waves from coming up. But the mirage was coming off the field. It took sometimes a few minutes just to make one shot. I was having major eye strain from the focus going crazy in the scope from it. I tried turning the power down on the scope but that didn’t work either.
Didn’t have a chrono with me but the 35 gr Varget and the 34 gr 4895 should be pushing the 188 gr at 2200 fps. These are just first loads. I am going to start getting really picky about everything now. I just wanted a basic load that shot well. I think I may also see if I can go higher with the Varget next time out as well.
The RPM is at 152K rpm. It is moving fast in this 10 twist. I am almost at my goal of sub MOA at 2300 fps.

Good shooting Tomme.
Just a quick question you said
“The 35 grains of Varget shot the best at 1.18″. All were shot at 100 yds. I think I could have shot a little better today too, but the mirage was killing me today.”
was the bullets sized to .309″ or .310″?Mirage yeah she is something else, as a rule usually a vertical string is produced, looks like you did extremely well controlling the mirage Kudos.
LOL now go hit that 2300 fps ….

Participant::I know I posted this on the other forum but it goes with this post. Goodsteel had my barrel last week to look over the chamber to see if it needed a set back or not. The chamber looked good. But he felt we needed to touch up the crown a little. I think he did a good job.
I have to hold off a little bit for right now as I think I having a lube failure. I shot a few more and was getting some leading at the last few inches of the barrel. I caught it early so it came right out with a few passes with a new 0.338″ brush. The lube was TacX. I am wondering if I should tumble lube them in some alox after lubing them with the TacX? I am thinking it might be from the front section of the bullet causing it. It is in the corners of the grooves.

::That sounds more like skid to me Tommy.
Also, remember to always shoot over a Chronograph. I have tried to estimate speed by powder charge and it just doesn’t work. Sometimes I’m slower, and sometimes I’m faster, but you have to verify before you draw conclusions. It would be like taping over the speedometer of your car and driving as fast as you can, then guessing what your speed was by the RPM gauge. LOL!Now, if indeed you are experiencing lube failure, I would recommend you give White Label 2700+ a try. If you PM me your address (sorry I lost it) I’ll send you a sample pack with four of their most popular lubes.

Participant::If it was skidding, wouldn’t it be doing it at the throat???? The throat looked good as far I I could see. When I looked down the muzzle, I could see it. Like I said, it cleaned up with just a few passes with a new brush.
I am going to try to get out this week end. I already loaded some more that I wiped the nose with alox to see if it is the nose dragging??????? I have had good luck with tumble lubing them after lubing the conventional way.

Participant::Well I made it out today again. I tested some loads that were lubed with the TacX then tumble lubed in thinned alox. I will say that the TacX did not seem to have a cold bore flier. If you look at the top left that was 5 rounds of the 34 grs of H4895. The bore was completely clean. I stripped it of everything as last time I had a little leading. The paper tore right at that group when I was taking it down.
It looks like I am going to have some more work to do. It seems that the 35 grs is about going to be the max for this combo. For what I want anyway. I am going to work on loads on each side of it and a little lower. I might also get the dacron out to see if that will help. I feel the temp today might also be a factor. It was 15* out this AM when testing. I felt like I was shooting really good today.
The 35 gr of Varget did not do as well as last time as lubed with just the TacX
