Participant::I have my hunting loads nailed down for this season, I’ve tried to rush the process in the past and it hasn’t worked well for me.
At the moment it’s generally too hot for rifle shooting here, at least with hunting rifles. It sometimes takes me several range trips to get a hunting load I have 100% confidence in and even though I’m probably not hunting until late in the season it’s probably too late for me to start the process now. I’d need at least a two month window, I guess it could happen. I’d like to be one of the first to down a critter with your concept but I won’t try it until it’s a sure thing, I owe even the ugliest hog that consideration.
Maybe I could stop off on the way to my brother’s lease and let Michael do the honors with Ol’ Ugly, I don’t think he has a rifle in 35 Whelen.2014-09-08 at 12:36 #492200Mike Bambauer

Participant::To hot to shoot in Texas?
Lived in Yuma for ten + years and we shot both handgun and rifle silhouette year round..
Finished up shooting by 1 pm though and drank beer the rest of the afternoon..We use that same time frame in Central Sask in November…. about -15C, shoot till 1pm then drink beer around a fire!

Participant::Now that I see both I’m leaning towards the bullet with the profile of the 311-165. Stretching the nose on the 359-190 makes it resemble the 360318, wasn’t able to get good results with that long nose in my 35 Whelen. Had feeding issues in my Winchester with a bullet of similar dimensions- the 360-235 “Thor”. I think the 359-190 had a short base to accomodate the 35 Rem, I like the way the 359-228 appears to go all the way to the base of the neck of the 35 Whln. The 359-228 should move the ogive out close enough to the rifling in my rifle that I won’t need a second crimping groove.

Participant::I like the larger radius of the 359-228. The smaller radius of the 359-190 would likely result in a shorter, lighter bullet and if anything I’d like the 359-228 to be heavier. Between the 359-245 and the 359-228 I’m thinking the 359-228 would be my choice. I like the TL design but I think in a 228gr bullet in the 35 Whelen may be pushing the limits of LLA so I’m thinking conventional grease grooves would be appropriate.

::Like the looks and bearing surface of the 359228 the best By looks i mean the more supported nose on it and also the lube grooves. Would be nice to have more weight on it but not sure what that will do to the profile? Anyway i do have a question and that is are these moulds in the end supposed to pour .359 or .360 dia?
