Is anyone else interested in a 45-70 postell style mold that drops at about 500-530gr with slick sides? I pretty much only use HTC now and I’ve read that the slick sides will help at the longer ranges.
      Cheers,

I might be, depending on the design.  I love the slick sided bullets.

I’m not sure on design, I’m after a bullet with the highest b.c. for the longer ranges up to 1000yd. Maybe a bit of a bore riding nose? Someone who has an idea on drawing and bullet design might have a good idea on where to start with this.
A smooth sided 500gr bullet will almost fly out of the mold I think!

Problem with the bore riding noses is getting the thickness right.  Most bore riding noses get too thick with powder coating.

True. I didn’t think about that. Just a plain Jane blunt point or spire type point will probably be easiest and useable for everyone.
I’m thinking I’d like a 3 or even 4 cavity mold in something like this

Not my picture. I knicked it from somewhere else. Basically a paper patch bullet but at groove diameter of .459 at 500 to 530gr in a 3 cavity would be great!

Ohhhh, what about a 3 or 4 cavity mold with 3 or 4 different bullet weights?

                    Like a 4 cavity mold with a 350, 400, 450, & 500.  That could be lots of fun.

I’m sure that’s possible! Just need some more people to jump on board. With this design.

We would probably want enough of a meplat so people could shoot them in tube fed guns too?  Or were you more wanting them to have a round nose?

I prefer the round nose as i intend to use it for long range shooting exclusively and I think it will give it an edge over any flat point. My opinion only I haven’t seen the science of course.
I do doubt a blunt nose like that will have any issues in a tube mag I’ve been shooting them like that for years without issue in .357 and 30/30s but some people may not be as game as me.

This could be nice and double as a subsonic 458 socom bullet.  I like it.  Now we need to get some dimensions and draw it up.  Kitika, do you have any dimensions?

Something very similar to this but shorter to bring it down closer to 500-535gr once the grooves are removed. I have no idea how to calculate what that length will be!

I did this on an online site. Quite short at 513gr and I’d prefer a blunt rounded tip not the flat point. This design might even fit in a standard depth mold block!

                                    And for a 405gr version.
