Any interest in a 30 caliber RG2 or RG4 mold dropping a 200 grain or so hollow point? My intention would be to get a bullet that maximizes killing power out of a suppressed 308 or 300 Blackout. Having a relatively heavy bullet with a hollow point would help make it a more humane killer, especially if cast from a softer alloy and if the hollow point were relatively deep. In a perfect world we could get an RG4 with 2 PB and 2 GC cavities.

Any interest? There’s a somewhat similar group buy running from another maker but I don’t expect it to happen until 2016 if current lead times are any predictor.

Very interested in this.  Would love an RG2 or RG4 of the NOE 311247, although I’m not sure if that’s feasible.

Expansion would be the question.  How big of a hollow point would be needed?  If you get too big of a meplat/hp it won’t feed in many ar-15’s, mine included, without modifying the feed ramps.  I am interested however.  I wonder if a pin could be made that splits the nose into 2 – 4 parts, effectively duplicating the aluminum foil trick or perhaps improving on it?

What about a deep, square pin so that the corners would provide initiation points for the nose to peel back? This would sort of be like the pre-scored jackets of modern self defense pistol ammo.

Hmmm…I’m liking this idea. Now we just need to get some more folks on board.

I’m in but will make the following observations.  Perhaps someone with more experience than me will comment on them.  The obvious candidate is the NOE 311247 as Wordsmith points out, since Al already has the tooling.

Most available information indicates a need at least 210 gr or more to ensure cycling in ar-15 300 blackout guns.

A deep, triangular pin style that is wide at the top and tapers to a point would result in three “petals” instead of four, which would do two things.  Bullet weight would be increased slightly and the petal bases would be less likely to shear off.  Of course this is theoretical on my part and may be inconsequential issues in the end.

Possible issues with a non-round pin could include difficulty in releasing the boolit from the pin.  This could also possibly result in bent petals if the “initiation points” are deep enough that there is unsupported material at the tip of the boolit.  Another mould maker offers non-round pins, and I as well as others have experienced difficult release, although polishing the pins with JP borepaste or flitz helps tremendously.  An aggressively angular pin may cause even more difficulty.

But it sure would be cool with the very real possibility of being functional as well.

What about a pin closer to a Phillips head screw but the points would be more pronounced and the curves between the points more of a steep arc?  The closest thing I can think of for an image comparison would be a 4-pointed “ninja” throwing star.
Don’t know how this would be for machining the pins but this might give you  something closer to a segmented bullet.

I would like a 200 to 220 gr hollow point for my Krag.  Glen Fryxell has a nice article on such bullets at the LASC site on cast bullets in the .30-40 Krag which may help the discussion at this url:

                  http://www.lasc.us/articlesfryxell.htm

I think a 311284, 311331, or 311299 with hollow point would do the job with the first two able to handle a larger diameter pin.  Would prefer a GC design and a round pin would do just fine.

I’m down for an rg4 in this weight range. My thoughts were a mildy modified 311-247 with a broadened meplat just enough to take a hp pin. I’d love to see it with the option to have between 17-27 grains of cavity.  17 for the 30-06 or 308, and a very deep 27+ for the blackout at sub speeds.
Mixed pb and gc sounds like the ticket for anyone wanting this to pull double duty.

I would definitely be on the list for something like this in the 200- 210 grn range
Agree at release will be much easier on a round headed pin..

This is the 311 247gr. FN modifies to work with our RG hollow point sysytem
Not sure if a .20 meplate will feed OK – but this is what it would look like

The deep HP may be a bear to get off of the pins.
Could offer a cup point pine with it too

We don’t offer a 5 sided pin and don’t have any real intentions of furnishing one

If you would do this in a 2, 3 or 4 cavity PB Mold  (I would prefer 2 or 3 as I think it will be easier to keep the points warm and bullets falling out smoothly) I would place an order ASAP

I like this, too…    I think a soft cast, with a cup point, would do the job and be an easy release…

That’s getting close to what I would like for my Krag and it should feed from a Krag magazine.  I would prefer a HP on a 311331, 284, or 299 but this should do fine especially if you round off the nose a bit more to help feeding.
