OK seeing as how I’m on a muzzle loading roll along with the Gardener bullet I also like a good mould of the original Enfield Pritchett bullet.

This drawing was done for/by Oyvind Flatnes when he had a Lee special order mould cut for the Modern Pritchett he designed, I have one of these no longer available moulds and the short bullet works well in the slow twist P53s especially at the shorter ranges.

I would like to see a mould of each the long original and the newer modern Pritchett.

Any one else shoot 577 rifled musket, Britain supplied a substantial amount of these rifle to the North and the South during the American Civil War so surely there has to be some of you shooting these fine firearms.

Are we dead in the water with this bullet mold.  Would go with the smaller diameter if need be.  I have just got an original enfield barre with very strong bore.

OK a possible ten moulds for order here.

I’ve pm’d Al asking if he could put this up as a GB thread with a drawing.

Looking for two diameter options, 0.550″ and 0.564″ adjustable base plug for length and a deep and shallow base plug option.

It will be a week or so before he can get a drawing up, new machinery coming into the shop taking up his time just now.

Just another step forward in this becoming a reality, all my M/L Enfields are purring with anticipation.

On a separate but related note, anyone have any idea where one could get some moulds to cast baseplugs made? I know of ONE place, with, I’m told, a dubious reputation, that may make one for the Lyman mould. Even if that were identical, I don’t know that the guy still makes them.  By all accounts, some holes of the correct size drilled through some 1/4″ aluminum stock would do, but I’ve no idea where one would get a bit of the proper size. Suggestions appreciated!

Hello Guys,

Al asked if I could manipulate the Bullet Design Software to show a drawing of the two Enfield Prichett bullets.

There are 2 things that the software is presently not set up to do. One is to reproduce a hollow base shaped like a truncated cone. However, the domed hollowbases have the same depth and the same volume as the bullets in the original sketches.
The other is to produce a beveled base while drawing a hollow base.

The two sketeches are the results of using the dimensions of the original sketches and some scaleing to come up with the dimenstions that are not labeled.

I’ll have more time to work on them next week so these drawings are preliminary and, if necessary, could be modified to a certain extent.

Look them over and feel free to make whatever comments that you think may apply.

All the sketches that are shown are the latest modifications and updates.

What can one say but phwoarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I faffed about trying to do a drawing of this bullet on your software, glad to see that my failure wasn’t totally down to my incompetence with the software.  :-[

The diameter of the 0568″ needs reducing to 0.566″ to accommodate the slightly thicker paper we get today.

Regarding the shallow base cavity, with NOEs adjustable bullet length method I’m assuming that would be a separate base plug?

Also how would the small base cavity look using the rounded shape but same volume method as has been dome with the large cavity plug?

Al will your blocks accommodate the full length ranges?

Also have you had any more thoughts about the clay/bodge base plug moulds?
