I’m sure that im not the only one who wants a groove less htc 125gr and 230/240 for there 300 aac blackout. the bigger one could be designed off the lee 230 minus the stupid boatail and the 125 could be based off the  noe HTC309-153-SP minus the sharp point to make tumbling in powder coat easier. Also making the nose of the bullet a little narrower to account for the thickness of the coating since blackouts have a very tight chamber and throat. And the bullet weights can very a bit +/- to account for design

It is only the nose that gives you problems.  The driving bands can be sized when you size the bullets–but the bore riding part of the nose can’t be sized quite as easily.  So what you get is a bullet that has the nose jam into the rifling on the bore riding section after you powder coat.  So we would need to decrease the diameter of the nose on the bore riding section if we use the 230.  The 247 would be a nice heavy one at around 255ish or so after removing the lube grooves.

My bad, I had assumed the 230 grain would have less issues because the profile looks more forgiving. Looked at the drawings and see the 247 nose is two thousandths thinner than the 230 nose makes sense.

Can the  230gr cherry be short orbited by .001 to allow for the coating? bands would be smaller to allow for the coating thickness. Meaning very little little if any sizing after coating.
The nose would be thinner too.  The  .302 nose becomes .300, and the  .311 band becomes .309? Though I’m not sure how this will affect a GC version if there was going to be one.

Add .0005 to .001 of coating and the band is .310 to .311  and the nose is .301 to .302?  Where we want it?

Maybe I’m just wishfully thinkin’  ;D

I can check with Al next time I stop by the shop and see.  Al has a couple cool new products coming out that I’ve been testing.

If you have a Lyman mag25 pot or rcbs promelt, NOE should be having a new mold guide hitting the shelves soon.  It makes it nice casting with the rg molds with the promelt.  And as for the Lyman, it is a much more functional guide.

Any word from AL on the possibility of a short orbit 230 gr. for coating?

I keep thinking about this one and I think the 247 gr bullet mold without the lube grooves is going to be a better bet.  However, if you guys really like this bullet profile, we can do it.

                          I can hang with the 247  8)

Are you thinking of leaving the crimp groove or slab siding the whole caboodle?
