I’d be interested in one if they have a crimp groove.
Crimp groove is fine IF it was placed for Socom feeding/chamber fit. Guessing it doesn’t matter so much where you place it for 45-70 unless COL gets too long for lever gun (but that would also be too long for socom).
Which size do you guys want more? And with a hollow point option? We can tweak this however you guys want. Here are some updated drawings after a little tinkering. Need to check with Swede to make sure the crimp groove is in an acceptable location for the 45-70. With the 458soc, we should be able to seat a little deeper and cover the crimp groove (if needed). Nose longer? Shorter?
If you want to use the bullet in the .458socom I would suggest a negative tolerance on the bullet forward of the crimp groove. Kind of like the Beartooth Piledriver and Accurate VG designs have. This way you don’t have to size down real far or seat the bullet real short to get the round to chamber. The nose can also be longer. The reverse engineered PTG reamer for the .458 has a more generous throat than the original approved reamer, (mix of both chambers on the market) but the negative tolerance just makes life easier. Especially when you go adding thickness with PC or Hitek.
I have the MP 462 hammer and the 350 Ranch Dog and it has to be shortened up a lot (under 2″ COAL) to chamber in my original spec chamber barrel.
