Full.Lead.TacoKeymaster::Molds should be on the mill this week, hopefully. Here is a video of the “proof mold” and test fitting in the cartridges (45-70 and .458 socom) Bullets were cast, sized, and powder coated with a clear coat.

Any load development yet?
I loaded a bunch with 1680 in socom. A couple months ago, I developed a recipe using hints from Lyman data with a slightly heavier NOE mold. I actually added too much powder I think but no signs of pressure. So, this time around, I am using slightly less powder with a lighter bullet. I also have loads for the new Heavy NOE slick side mold and….. I even will test a few of the bullet buttons. Those may not cycle or even exit barrel so I am saving those for last.
I did have one issue with this mold that I have never had before. Our friends at NOE must have been having a bad day. They torqued the crap out of the screws that hold the pins in place (for hollow point). I normally use flat point pin until mold has a couple uses (well seasoned). Would rather FP be installed by default. Tried to swap but only got one screw out. Second screw head is stripped. Tried other 2 but didn’t get far and gave up. Hopefully Al can fix it if no one has a recommendation.
So, I went with the default deep a hollow point pins for this first test. Will test this weekend now that the weather is clearing here.

Full.Lead.TacoKeymaster::There’s already small metplat bullets for socom on the site. Let’s make a good hunting bullet that’s slicksided for the 45-70
This bullet has already been produced (and looks very purdy if I don’t mind saying). If you want a 45-70 specific bullet with a wider meplat (slick sided) then lets create a new thread and draw up a new bullet. We can modify an existing design or draw up a completely new one.

Full.Lead.TacoKeymaster::I am sure others will be interested in a slick sided 45.70 bullet,
Is there a reason why you wouldn’t want to use it in the 45-70? If you trim the brass to length and crimp in the groove, it will cycle in a Marlin 1895 (at least it did in my two).

::I have already purchased the HTC-459-367 mould, It arrived in Australia awhile ago, I have cast 300 hundred bullet with the mould and HItec coated them, sized them with my new NOE push through die, brass is trimmed and I will be loading and shooting them on Friday, bullets came out looking really nice, Hitec bake was so easy, always room for another 45.70 mould slick sides around the 400 grains.
