Full.Lead.TacoKeymaster::Just a thought. Maybe it would be good to have a smaller diameter but deeper HP cavity like the old Lyman Gould 45-70 design. Thoughts?
I’m mostly going to be using the hollow points for blowing up watermelons, old pumpkins, and water jugs–so the one in the design works for me. But I am also not super picky and would be fine with either. The advantage of this one, is that we could do a cup point also–the current hp, cup point, and flat point. I am not sure if an additional pin with a skinny deep point would be an option that we could throw in. How deep and skinny would you want? I wonder if they would have a harder time releasing.

::Below is a good picture of the old school Gould 45-70 bullet. Picture can be enlarged in the upper right corner of the pic. Notice the negative tolerance (step down) at the nose ahead of the first band. The HP cavity is tapered but it is fairly small in diameter. I have a pin for an MP mold I have that is similar in design to the gould cavity. It has dropped fine for me.

Participant::On link which posted by dkf that bullet is almost identical Lyman 330gr HP

Don’t know how wide metplat should be to get example Lyman style HP on NOE’s molds but if we talk about that Saeco 61023 clone that bullet has so small metplat that I quessing HP isn’t option…Correct if i’m wrong

::ahh ok, DKF, so you want the bullet to step down from the first band to the nose. How much of a step would you want?
For the .458socom the step would be good for throat clearance, especially when using thicker powder coat. I’d say if the diameter is around .454″ or .455″ forward of the crimp groove that would be ok.

I’m trying to remember, the mould can come with interchangeable pins, that can be swapped out for HP or cup point, flat point, is that correct? I started loading up the 45-70 mould I have, has to seat so far into the case, that I’m kind of leary of it.
