One of my favorite light-weight choices for .458 rifles is the RCBS 45-300 FN. Sadly, it’s only available from RCBS in a 2 cav, it’s only offered in gas-check design, and it often casts too small using alloys with minimal tin content.
Since you really “need” a light-weight offering wth a standard grease groove, Al… How about considering a version of this bullet that throws .460 with less tin-rich alloys, has PB and GC options, and is a perfect candidate for RG cup-nose and hollow-points???
I’ll even offer to test any prototypes free of charge… indefinitely.  :)

I want one that casts no more than 325gr as a solid with WWs.  I have that RCBS & it casts way more than 325 & with a Lyman #2 + lino mix.

So 4 cav 2 PB, 2 GC if not more than 325.

I’ll second the motion. Drive bands dropping at about .461″ in a little less than WW alloy would be about right I think.

How about a 300 gr. HP or a 325 solid  with plain base or GC. options in a RG-4.  A .460 would be right because I use WW and tweak with foundry lead.

Any of you guys looking for a 300 gr. hp  for that 45/70  and with solid pins a 325 gr. ?  That sure would be a nice mold in a RG2 or RG4. Mabe if we get enough guys Al will draw something up.

I’m about to switch gears here and suggest that Al considers simply using the tooling he’ll need for the RD 454-290 FN mould being discussed in the Ranchdog Section and orbit it an additional.006″.
Maybe we can combine the 2 lists to make a run more feasible sooner???
What do you think, AL?… I’ll definitely be in for both .454 and .460 versions.

the standard lube groove would be the best in my opinion.
                          orbited out to .460

I’m also mainly interested in standard lube grooves. If it proves feasible for Al, the TL version would have it’s own list.
Solids near 300 grains and RGs near 280, maybe 290 with a cup nose (I’m guessing)…A lightweight solid with a .331″ meplate is enough for all my intentions. I’m thinking the HPs would turn most varmints inside-out, if not simply disassembling them instantaneously… POOF!

I am trying to talk my self out of the Magnum Research 45/70 Gov. I think this would fit the bill for it so I will get in on this one to my Marlin may even like it.

I would be interested in 460 350Gr. RF RG or something similar. It could e lighter and that would be ok.
