One of my favorite light-weight choices for .458 rifles is the RCBS 45-300 FN. Sadly, it’s only available from RCBS in a 2 cav, it’s only offered in gas-check design, and it often casts too small using alloys with minimal tin content.
Since you really “need” a light-weight offering wth a standard grease groove, Al… How about considering a version of this bullet that throws .460 with less tin-rich alloys, has PB and GC options, and is a perfect candidate for RG cup-nose and hollow-points???
I’ll even offer to test any prototypes free of charge… indefinitely.  :)

I still like the 300 gr. hp for the 45/70 with regular lube grooves.

I would be interested in the 300gr HP idea as well.

It looks like we has a possible 9.  We need 1 more guy to make this happen.

I would be interested in something along the lines of the RCBS mould that casts a hollow point at about 300gr, a flat point at around 325gr +/-, has conventional lube grooves, and a gas check.

Well, the RCBS style at 325 solid, <320 HPed and cup-nosed, appears to have enough interested.
The RD syle (454-290 orbited to .460) shows a lot of promise as a light-weight, too.

Maybe Al will weigh in with his thoughts now that we have 10 kicking this around… I have a feeling more will join when we can get a drawing pinned down.

                          I’m still in for a 325/300.

For deer hunting here in Ohio, I’m using my Marlin 1895G Guide Gun with the Sierra 300gr FN-HP Pro-Hunter (#8900) over a stout load of Varget. My rifle is one of the earlier ones with the ported barrel. With a 100 yard zero, that gives me a pretty flat trajectory out to about 150 yards. That also gives me all the range I usually need. I would really like to duplicate that trajectory with a cast load.

That’s why I’d like a cast bullet that has a 300gr weight as a hollow point, and a little heavier as a flat point. I’d also like a gas check version of the bullet too.

                              Let’s get this one going!

This one has been on here since June 2014. I think it is safe to say it isn’t going anywhere.

I would have to respectfully disagree with you. Twelve or more people have expressed an interest in this bullet design, and there hasn’t even been a drawing or specifications listed for this one yet. Imagine what would happen if there was a drawing with specs listed.

Also, keep in mind that the Ranch Dog tumble lube/gas check 9mm bullet discussion started on May 31st, 2014, before this one, and Al started an Active Group Buy for it on June 2nd, 2015. When only 6 people had signed up for it, Al moved it to Last Call status on June 12th.

                                    There’s still hope!
