This is the great JD Jones designed bullet which SSK sold and NEI manufactured molds for. It went to Africa and Alaska with JD Jones and the late Larry Kelly (founder of MagNaPort). JD sold the stock of molds to Peter Pi of Corbon never to be seen again. This is a very accurate bullet with great penetration and needs to be brought back. JD also produced 220gr, 260gr and a 350gr GC version. I would love to see the 220, 260gr and 310gr molds brought back again in a .430+ dia PB.
Would anybody else be interested?

Whats with the lengths and weights? The drawing for the dual crimp groove seems right on, but my original 310-429 is only .912 long and around 317gr. What is that last bullet? My two lighter bullets are approximately 225gr and 260+ the 260 is .760 long. My bullets look and weigh like Blammers. Also, .434 is a few thousands fat for most of us.
At this point I’ll have to pass on an order.

Finally checked back on this.  Trying to figure out the proposed designs…

Al- I have a little different variation of the 310 SSK-JDJ. It casts 319gr with COWW+2% Sn.  I also made a drawing of it with Tom Meyers program, measurements are as close as my old eyes can make it if that would help. Could send the drawing e-mail I you like. bushman

Yes I see that is what the drawing says but I have found that some of my molds don’t drop bullets at the weight indicated. I don’t want a bullet 10 grains or so heavier than that. Maybe if I changed my alloy it would drop closer to my desired weight. Any suggestions? Maybe a larger HP pin?

762Sultan- With a bullet that big you’ll get a lot of weight variance by changing the alloy.  I have the old NEI JDJ-SSK mould.  I believe it was designed using Lyman #2.  My mould when cast with Lino would drop ~ 305gr, Lyman#2 ~ 312gr, WW+2% Sn ~ 316gr, 50/50 (COWW/ Pb+2% Sn) ~ 320gr. I primarily use the 50/50 alloy, water dropped.  Bullet doesn’t shatter, penetrates bone, and shoots very well from a Ruger SBH 7.5″ barrel.  bushman
PS. Keep in mind mould materiel and temp at casting will affect the size and weight too.

That sounds like a plan. It may be a while before this mold becomes a reality, so I have time to prepare a new alloy that will be compatible for a lighter bullet. Thanks for the info.

I got tired of waiting. I measured up a 220gr SSK and had Mountain Molds make a dual cavity for me. His program would only handle a single grease groove though. Once it was in my hand!!! Darn, that looks like the SAECO 200gr truncated bullet. All I can say is it shoots as well in my 44 Specials as the original SSK does, which is quite accurate. I’m now working on the 260gr and it looks like I can copy it exactly.
