Last year I started working on reloading references for the NOE bullet designs, it has gone slower than expected because of the limits of my time but also because I needed to come up with templates that would make the Load Note sheets consistent across all the types of designs and contain as much information as possible for the bullet caster. Al and I think that we have a good format that addresses as many considerations as possible when generating the data so it is time to get started. A quick look at his store’s pages confirms exactly what an undertaking this will be so rather than work from A to Z, I thought I would ask as to what the immediate need of NOE’s customer base is concerning the information to get your bullets out the barrel.

In order to understand how the suggested loads are generated and how the pages are formatted, please read:  Pressure Notes.

Here is what the formatted Load Note pages look like and how the information is presented: 378-275 H&H Mag

If you recommend a bullet design, please include what cartridge you using with the design.

Hello Ranch Dog,
Sorry for asking, I located and bookmarked the data for the 502-375 mold in 500 S&W. I did have a question about a couple powders not listed.
Can you suggest where I should start for using Accurate 1680, 5744, and Alliant’s new Power Pro 300 MP?
Thanks in advance!
Justin

Sure Justin, here you go: http://ranchdogoutdoors.com/data/images/502375SP_500S&W_supplement.jpg

Alliant Power Pro 300MP is not in the QL database. The reason the other two were not included is that I run based on the manufacturer’s classification of their powders. In the case of these two, Accurate lists them as rifle powders. 1680 would have not come up either way because of it’s efficiency, 30% of it is being blown out the barrel unburnt. 5744 hit the cutoff of 80% burnt. Sorry I could not help with the newer Alliant powder.

RD, my Austrian 8X56R has a .332 groove  and some rifles are even bigger.  Lee dies for this rifle are listed as 8X56R Hungarian if that is any help.

QL has a 8x56R M30S (Solohurn-Hungarian) with a .329″ groove. Even with your .332″ groove and a bullet .003″ that I’m still .004″ short of the running the 339-230-RF and providing valid data. In that your groove diameter is so far off the spec, the cartridge would need to be redrawn which would require your bore diameter as well and the H2O capacity of a fired case. The bullet would need to be redrawn too at .335, it would be possible to size it to this, but this is kind of getting beyond the scope of what I’m doing here as I would not post this data, only send it directly for you.

I couldn’t ask you to go to all that trouble RD so please scratch  my requests from your list.
Many thanks,
Closey

Okay but a question. The 7.5×55 is listed as having a .306″ groove, what are you sizing the 311-180-FN to?

Off topic but may help. If you call Microsoft and tell them you are replacing a PC they will give you the code to reinstall the Office. I had to do it when they forced me to upgrade from my Xp computer to a new laptop.

I appreciate the info but the switch has already been made and I much prefer OpenOffice.

Good Morning Michael,

I would like to try the TLC313-150-RF RG4 cavity GC (RD) in the 30-30 and the 7.62 X 54r if you have time.  I like that big hollow point.  Speaking of big hollow point, I’d even try the TLC357-135-RF RG4 cavity GC (RD) in the 357 magnum.

Like many others, gotta keep several projects going at the same time…

Best,
Mike

Are you working up all NOE designs or just the Ranch Dog designs?
How About the 246-46gr in 243,as a target and small game load.

Okay, getting a number of request that are not easy calculations because the bullets don’t fit the applications. As a bullet exceeds .003″ of the groove spec, the numbers that I’m able to provide are not valid. QL is capable of the calculations but it is required that both barrel and cartridge be modified to the user’s specifics and if the bullet is to be resized the same as well. Unfortunately, this is beyond the scope of what I’m doing here. So I will not be able to provide data for the following requests:

[*]7.55X55 Swede 311-180-RF[*]313-150-RF 30-30 Win
So here is the current list:

[*]313-150-RF 7.62X54R[*]357-135-RF 357 Mag[*]246-46-XX 243 Win
I’m working on both.

Just a reminder, I can only have the time to generate one Load Note sheet a day. There is a 2 days delay in the que.

Check at http://www.ranchdogoutdoors.com/data to see if the notes you are looking for have been posted. If not, make a specific request via a post using the bullet ID profile and cartridge. It will be added to the back of the list. Custom data; specific powder requests, cartridges not in my database, and bores not within .003″ of the bullet’s design diameter, cannot be provided. Data is generated within the confines of templates, please see any Load Notes as a sample of what can be provided.

It is a good idea to bookmark the link above once opened.

Please remember that this data is for NOE’s and RDO’s use. Your use of our Load Notes is at your own risk and only meant for a comparison against other sources.

For those of you who have requests that are a bit involved you might want to consider picking up a copy of Quickload which includes its awesome companion Quicktarget. The last I saw it was around the price of a brass RG4 noe mould. There’s a lot you can do with it. If you do get it, start slow. It’s a bit intimidating but after you use it (then get frustrated and resort to reading the manual ) you’ll be quite happy with it. Then you could move on to Quicktarget which is a separate module that reads the current data in your Quickload screens to perform the ballastic calculations.
To sum it up, it’s worth the price.

No doubt I agree. When I moved into cast bullets right away I knew I needed something more than what any other source could provide. QuickLoad isn’t as hard as if first appears. I took my time and worked through the user manual and that in itself is quite a lesson in internal ballistics. I know it has saved me a lot of effort on things that don’t work and has helped me focus my loading on what does and that has more than paid for the software. Really, my work here is a demonstration of what the potential is and I hope it wets your appetite for the specifics of your handloading.

Sorry SSG, I was not able to generate any useful data using the 245-46-FN & the 243 Win. The bullet size vs. the case capacity just doesn’t work out within the template framework I have. It would take a bit of poking around with the powders you have in mind and specific velocities.  The velocities my templates were generating were from 2500 to 3500 with the little BB.
