In another thread concerning 9mm bullets I mentioned the bullet under discussion might be good with the 350 Legend. Cornmastah then brought up that the legend has some special needs based on a rib in the magazines. tmaloy made a recommendation for a starting – the RCBS 147g 0.359 – where the first change would be the inclusion of a gas check.
I’m hoping cornmastah might draw up that prototype, if it looks good, using that fancy software he has. Actually, I have the same software I just haven’t had a chance to put the time in to really make a decent drawing.
So, let’s discuss and try to come up with the best bullet out there for the 350 Legend! -

::This is an awesome idea!. For input, the 350 Legend uses .355 FMJ bullets. (Not surprised). So this hinders a lot of options in 357 cast. The other issue is Winchester brass is slightly to thick . Even with a 357 bullet there is chambering issues. Starline got it right so thats that brass I use.
The bullet design should be based off a long truncated cone with small meplate for easier clambering. Most barrels being made such as the KAK or AR stoner are using regular M4 feedramps. I built a barrel that is using a Tromix 458 Socom barrel extension and can chamber near everything including SWC. I would go with a 180gr or 165gr. This cartridge uses the same powders as 300AAC. H110, lil gun, and 1680 seem to be the best. I suggest the 180gr to make use of optimal powder charge (85% case fill) in powders like H110. The Truncated cone design will help with magazine issues and feeding and I suggest offering in in gas checked, or go with 4198 powder for plain base. I found modifying a 10 round PMag by removing the shoulder guides worked great. I also have the CMMG mag which feed fine. Some folks are reporting the CMMG mag lip in the middle to catch and scare brass. A2019-08-22 at 16:19 #511855
Full.Lead.TacoKeymaster::Do you still have any of that winchester ammo left that you could pull a bullet on and we can get some rough measurements on? really curious on the nose portion of the TC.

Participant::Awesome!
I just stopped by to mention the case length is 1.71 and the max cartridge length is 2.26.
. . .
And you guys are about a thousand miles ahead of me! Which is great!
I’ve found images of the Winchester cartridges with those TC jacketed bullets and have tried to find something, somewhere, anywhere, that came close to them and I found a few designs but they would all need work. So disassembling a commercial cartridge to get the dimensions is a perfect idea! I wouldn’t have thought of it because I no longer buy commercial ammunition. Just make my own for myself and my friends that shoot with me.

Full.Lead.TacoKeymaster::There are some issues with the current legend specs though. Some of the testing Kenny has done as well as this article explain some of the difficulties:

Participant::@tmaloy – Couldn’t find a drawing of your RCBS bullet so I used one I found in that fancy software tool I bought but never spent more that 5 minutes with trying to use.
I gave the fancy software a whirl and I was actually able to come up with something interesting at the very least. Now the question is will it be visible once I post this? I attached it but I can’t see it in the “Preview”. Anyway, for your viewing pleasure is my rendition of what a custom 350 Legend might look like (if it appears).

Participant::Thanks cornmastah!
In the meanwhile, I’ve concocted another bullet. This one probably meets the requirements a little more closely : actually uses “Truncated Cone” from the little dropdown instead of “Tangent” or whatever it was; 166g rather than 200+; not top heavy. I’ve used Lee notation for the new bullet – C357-166-TC.
I’m going to try to post one more time. If the images won’t post, I’ll have to ask if I may impose upon cornmastah’s good graces and email them to him for posting.2019-09-05 at 12:47 #511866
Full.Lead.TacoKeymaster::To post pics, you will need to upload them to an image sharing site and link them here.

Thanks cornmastah!
