Meant to get to this sooner . . .
In another thread concerning 9mm bullets I mentioned the bullet under discussion might be good with the 350 Legend. Cornmastah then brought up that the legend has some special needs based on a rib in the magazines. tmaloy made a recommendation for a starting – the RCBS 147g 0.359 – where the first change would be the inclusion of a gas check.
I’m hoping cornmastah might draw up that prototype, if it looks good, using that fancy software he has. Actually, I have the same software I just haven’t had a chance to put the time in to really make a decent drawing.
So, let’s discuss and try to come up with the best bullet out there for the 350 Legend!

I marked up the drawings to show both cast options.

I talked to Al, he said he would try to get on here and give some feedback about the gas check shank.

Generally what happens is if we start with a tapered shank by the time we finish cutting so the gas check is a thumb press fit it is a straight shank.

As soon as you all decide on the diameter you want I will put up a drawing as to what we can do.
But two different gas check shanks is totally out of the question.

I would have to burn up three or four form tools just to make a .002″ or .003 difference in the shank.
Not worth the $800.00 to $900.00 to make something that most cant even measure.

So I’m a little late to the party but I have several NOE moulds and came looking for one for my 350Lgd.  Currently I’m shooting 200gr CPT Long Flat Nose GC bullets and they feed well in my 350Lgd AR15 when seated long.  I also have a box of CPT WFNGC 180gr but haven’t had time to load or shoot them yet.  I think what I’m looking for is a 180 to 200gr LFNGC design.  Lots of options posted here on the thread and I haven’t had time to read through it all.  My goal is to PC these ideally before applying the GC.

I’ll go jump over onto the group buy forum page to see if a final design has been posted

Well there you have it, ladies. Al came in and laid it down. Let’s just go with the original drawing (from Reply#56) as the tapering doesn’t seem to have much bearing.

@leoparddog – Sounds like you and tomme boy have the same interests in the design. Don’t worry, he’s been representing that option quite well. I propose going with the design in Reply#56 as we had more or less settled on that before the gas check shank discussion started.
I’ve pasted it here to avoid confusion.  ??? 😮

                    Thanks Al,
I’ll have to mull it over and go back and look at the standard .358 bullet designs as well.  One thing I have noticed with my 350Lgd AR is that the longer COL feeds much better than the short ones.  So the longer more spitzer shapped bullets will likely feed smoother.  I haven’t had feeding issues with the 200gr LFNGC design as long at the COL is right.

I do have a preference for more of a TC design for hunting.

Absolutely. I’ve had that experience with other cartridges in an AR as well. And we did take that into consideration. If you do the math (any higher than ten and I have to take my shoes off so keep me honest here) the COL comes out to 2.21, if I’m reading the diagram right. With the SAAMI spec from 2.125 to 2.26 our design is right  up next to the maximum size allowed.

Just noticed that there is now stock of the 357-190 cast bullet.
In stock are GCs, PBs, combination moulds of GCs & PBs.
                          Both Aluminum & Brass moulds.
I just ordered my 4 cavity, mould, & thought that I would say something to those that have been waiting for the 350 Legend cast bullet design to come to fruition.
