Based on the initial discussion in the thread below, I am looking for interested parties to fill the list for a NOE buy if possible.

      100gn.
      Plainbase.
No lube groove for powder coating.
RN/spitzer type for feeding in semiautomatic.
Specs outlined, but not finished (true cast bullet drawing and .223/Wylde chamber consideration appreciated).

This is a jacketed 100gn that I extrapolated some rough measurements from:

Keep in mind .. That Powdercoating is going to add .0015 to .002 to the Dia

also would really like someone to file some tips to the stated meplat load to near max OAL and see if they will feed in a std AR setup

        Thanks

For those of you planning to powder coat this bullet, what is the diameter that you want after powder coating and sizing?  Would it make sense to drop it down to .225?  For me it isn’t a big deal to cast it out at .226, then powder coat, then size it to .225 or .226.  The bullets will stretch a little though, if sizing much.

As far as nose sizing, that would not be necessary since there isn’t really a bore riding portion of the bullet.

I have never cast for the .223 Rem, but I think .225 would be enough.
.226 would probably be very sensitive to brass thickness and expander procedure.

The coating will add .001-.002 on the nose, but as cornmastah writes I also believe it to be a non issue. If it happens, just seat .001-.002 deeper into the case.

              Hello guys!

Count me in for a mold. :-)

Do we decide alu/brass, groove or not right now? / BR from Peter

Hi Peter_Sandberg, you won’t  specify all that info until we’ve got the official buy going.

I turned some 77 grain SMK bullets to .820″ long, which makes the metplat approx .140″ in diameter. I loaded 9 rounds with a COAL of 2.11, this is the same length at the ogive as the uncut 77smk loaded to 2.260″ COAL.

The cut bullets at 2.110″ COAL leaves approx .370″ of bullet outside the case.(brass trimmed to 1.740″) So I think we are going to have to make the nose longer by approx .100″ or so to get the COAL longer and help feeding. The weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow so I am going to try and function test the 9 rounds I loaded to make sure they feed. I’ll post another drawing with the longer nose.

Here is a pic of the rounds loaded in a Lancer magazine.

did you make any dummy rounds and try to hand cycle any?

Didn’t make any dummies, had limited time to turn bullets. I inserted the full mag and dropped the bolt on a live round and it chambered an ejected fine. Honestly I don’t put much faith in hand cycling rounds to prove function.

Drawing with longer nose. Lengthened the nose, shortened the top band and moved the crimp groove up. Not sure what the weight is, just made an educated guess.

I would be shooting for a finished size of 225 .. sizing from .228 cast and coated down to .225 should not be a real big issue most overflow will smear into the lube groove and you might end with a small ring at base
Starting with a .225 bullet would be better for the powdercoaters

at 226 finished size I believe you are going to have chambering issues with many brands of brass if you have a tight chamber

By the design drawing it looks like we could think of this as a 223 with two 0.226 bands each 0.310 long. And it looks like it would work according to my calculations  :o.

Thank you for the updated drawing cornmastah.

I shot the 9 test rounds this morning with the shortened 77gr SMK bullets over 23.0gr of TAC. Metplat of them average approx .145″ with a sharp corner with a hollow center. I loaded a round on top so all test rounds would feed from the magazine at full speed. All fed except the last round, last round just hung up. Don’t know if it was a fluke, mag issue or caused by the bullet. It is what it is. I feel we should be good with the .128″ metplat.
