Based on the initial discussion in the thread below, I am looking for interested parties to fill the list for a NOE buy if possible.

No lube groove for powder coating.
RN/spitzer type for feeding in semiautomatic.
Specs outlined, but not finished (true cast bullet drawing and .223/Wylde chamber consideration appreciated).

This is a jacketed 100gn that I extrapolated some rough measurements from:

          I’m in.
I’d like to see a 226 with a lube groove.
No groove is fine as well but not my first preference.
          5 cav.

Anybody have some ideas for types of powders to use for this bullet?  My use would be subsonic plinking as well as slower supersonic plinking–which would still cycle an AR.  I’m guessing that a faster powder would be required for the subsonic loading.  A1680 too fast?

actually 1680 wouldn’t work, I think it would only take 5 gr powder to bring it up to 1000fps, but there would be too much empty space for 1680.

I use Lil’ Gun and Winchester Super Handicap for my 300 BLK subsonics but it won’t cycle with carbine or rifle length gas guns. It will cycle in the pistol gas though. My barrel is carbine length with pistol gas.

I’m looking for the same info. Have been all over the net and find nothing. I know theres someone selling loaded ammo that subsonic and runs an action but there tight lipped on the load there using.

What’s the gas system on your respective ARs? I think that’s going to dictate what powders you can use to get the thing to cycle.
I don’t know if you guys have it but Quickload has a nice graph of the pressure in the barrel as the bullet travels through it. I think Quickload was telling me 6K to 7K when the bullet would pass a carbine length system and that wouldn’t do it. Got a short stroke, usually, with an occasional jam. Never a complete cycle. When Quickload told me 8K+ at the gas system length I would start to get positive cycling. And, as I mentioned, I went to a 16″ pistol gas barrel. Well, just built a new upper for it. Works great.

That is what I’ve found also

My AR is 16″ carbine length gas

everywhere ive searched ive come up with nothing but failures. Guys are shooting 100s subsonic with trial boss but it doesn’t generate enough gas pressure to run the action. Might have bought a dust collector here. I guess a guy could buy one of those threaded ruger americans in 223. My guess if I had to start experimenting would be something like power pistol or herco.

Trail Boss just a bad powder to use if you want to cycle the action of a semi. With .458socom you get trail boss to function in an AR with heavy bullets but the gas port has to be opened up considerably larger to do it. I got the mold for supersonic so I don’t have to screw with gas checks all the time.

Agreed, you will need something other than Trailboss.  Trailboss is not the powder for cycling AR15’s.  I know that there is probably one that will work, just gotta find out what that powder is and how much to load.

I mean, there are factory loads with a jacketed bullet which work–so doing cast should be just fine.  Just gotta find out what powder to use.
